Tap, Swadhyay and Ishwarpranidhan is Kriya yoga
1,2 Sadhanpad, Patanjal Yogsutra
Tap (Penance), Swadhyaya (Self-Study) and Ishwarpranidhan (divert towards the God) are the three part of Kriya Yoga.                                                               (1,2 Sadhanpad, Patanjal Yogsutra)
Kriya yoga came through Yogiraj Shri Shyamacharan Lahiri. Peoples were used to call him 'Lahiri Mahasaya'. He gave some ideas about Kriya yoga. It is a bit differennt than definition of Shri Patanjali. Kriya Yoga from Lahiri Mahasaya divided in to four part and it is called pratham, dwitiya, tritiya and chaturtha kriya. Practice are the same as mentioned in Hatha yoag and Ashtanga yoga but he used different name for the same practice and merged some exercises from Ashtanga and Hatha yoga.
Kriya Yoga from Lahiri Mahasaya has four steps and called Pratham, Dwitiya, Tritiya and chaturtha Kriya. Pratham Kriya has five practices, Dwitiya Kriya has two practices, Tritiya and Chaturtha Kriya are the continuing process of Dwitiya Kriya.

Pratham Kriya
a. Talbya Kriya
It is the practice of continuous mantra chanting. The mantra is 'Om Nomo Bhagwate Vasudevaye' and Namaskar to itself.
b. Mahamudra
Mahamudra is same as Hatha Yoga.
c. Pranayama
Pranayama have three different part, Purak, Kumbhak and Rechak. Purak is inhalation, Kumbhak is retention and Rechak is exhalation.
d. Nabhi Kriya
Both thumbs are placed on the navel and during thumbs on the navel, continue chanting of the 'OM' will be going on.
e. Jyoti or Yoni Mudra
It is the same as Bhramari postion (to close seven doors of the body) and instead of creating vibration with the sound, just concentrate on the eyebrows center and experience the light on it.

Dwitiya Kriya
Khechari Mudra
Folding the tongue upward and bringing to the meeting point of all uper doors (both eyes, both ears, both nostril and mouth) and trying to suck the Amrita (Melatonin Hormon).
Continuous 'OM' Chanting
In this Kriya, in the beginning practitioner try to enchant 'Pranav sound OM' and after certain time period try to concentrate on the internal sound of the body. Accordind to Lahiri Mahasaya it can be ten different types. In the last, sound will be like tuned very sharp and harmonical. Then after all the sound will disapear and then there will be no any sound and no any feeling of meditating. These all process get continue.
Pratyahara is the Omkar Kriya that means during the chanting there is one stage come where practitioner cut off from external world.
Tritiya Kriya he named as Thoker Kriya and it is Dhyana in other traditional methodology. It is the extended process of the Dwitiya Kriya, when internal sound start take place.
Chaturtha Kriya is extended process of the Tritiya Kriya, where all the internal sound disapear and cover (all kind of Sanskar created through sensual organ) and Bhav-Jagat (emotional world) of the chitta break and then Chitta appears in it's real form and merge with it's eternal source. Process of the unity of Spirit and Super Spirit.
Kriya Yoga through Shri Patanjali
According to Shri Patanjali, Kriya Yog is the practice of Tapa(Penance,                                         Swadhyay(Self-Study) and Ishwar Pranidhan(Divert  towards the God) together.

Tapa
Definition of Tapa is, living and doing act against the physical and sensual comfort. Now here is the question that what is this, and how it can be possible?
Actually, in the normal daily life we are the not honest to itself. For example, we think, nice and thick bed is give nice comfort but next day we get back pain. To eat spicy food we becomes very happy and feel good but this feeling of goodness is real? No, it is brings lots of problem, physically and mentaly both and these all obstacles (attachment towards sensual comfort and non stable and quick mental enjoy) stop us to find the settlement of the mind, misunderstand the reality and looses our value and make unpure ego.

"To attract and attach with the sensual subject but non stable benifit, is the actually is the beginning of our problems and sorrow"...Yogacharya Kashinath

When we understand the fundamental principles of nature(tattva gyan) then we find attraction towards comfort is actually beginning of the pain and then we tried to sleep on the normal bed, eat the normal food and think for surviving rather than enjoying then we improve quality and stamina of our body and mind too and use this human body to liberate form life cycle. We will find, for the small things our mind was irritating now due to practice it is getting settle, more stable and powerfull.

Tap means heat and this heating is take place in the mind, through body and mind itself and due to this energy we able to do some extra-ordinary things. In the Tap(a) section of Shri Patanjal ofcourse can also practice Asan(physical yogic exercises) and category and quantity of Asan can be depends on the practitioners quality.

Swadhyay-Study to itself:
Swadhyayadist devatasamprayogah I (44,2 Yogsutra)

Through self study comes the realisation of the intended deity.
(Self study is also a kind of strong mental purification, it works also to come down ego and improve the capacity of self realisation. When it establishe we have the capacity to see the truth and we becomes pure and soft and this is the power why we can introduce with intended deity...Kashinath)

Ishwarpranidhan-Surrender to God:
Samadhisidhirishwarpranidhanat I (45,2 Yogsutra)

By surrender life in God Samadhi becomes perfect.

These all above practices and theories are also Kriya yoga but these theories are from Patanjali Yogasutra.
